How to Crack Campus Placements in India: The Complete Preparation Guide

Published on June 23, 2026 • 8 min read

Campus placements are the easiest route to a job you will ever have in your life. The companies are coming to your doorstep. They have dedicated quotas for your college. The interviews are easier than off-campus.

If you waste this opportunity, you will enter the off-campus meat grinder, competing with lakhs of students pan-India. You need to start preparing six months in advance, not six days. Here is the exact blueprint to clear every round of campus placements in India.

Master Guide

Ultimate Guide to Resume Formats (2026)

Struggling to choose between Chronological, Functional, or Hybrid formats? Get step-by-step blueprints tailored for Indian job seekers.

Phase 1: The Aptitude Test (The Great Filter)

Companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, and Cognizant eliminate 70% of students in the very first round based on basic math and logic. If you fail aptitude, your coding skills don't matter.

  • Quants: Focus on Time & Work, Speed Distance Time, Percentages, Profit & Loss, and Permutation & Combination.
  • Logical Reasoning: Practice blood relations, syllogisms, and seating arrangements.
  • Verbal: Reading comprehension, sentence correction, and vocabulary.
  • How to prep: Use IndiaBix.com or RS Aggarwal. Practice with a timer. Speed matters more than deep knowledge here.

Phase 2: Group Discussion (GD)

GD is an elimination round, not a selection round. They are filtering out people with terrible communication skills and aggressive behavior.

  • Don't dominate: Let others speak. Screaming over people gets you rejected.
  • Enter strategically: If you can't start, enter after the first 3 minutes by summarizing and adding a new point: "Adding to what Rahul said..."
  • Body language: Make eye contact with the group, not the evaluator.

Phase 3: The Technical Interview

They know you are a fresher. They do not expect you to build a microservice architecture. They expect your fundamentals to be rock solid.

  • The Core Subjects (CS/IT): You must know Object-Oriented Programming (OOPs), Database Management Systems (DBMS), Operating Systems (OS), and Computer Networks (CN).
  • Data Structures & Algorithms: For product-based companies, you need LeetCode Medium proficiency. For service-based companies, know arrays, strings, basic linked lists, and sorting algorithms.
  • Your Resume Projects: You must know every line of code in the projects you listed. If you copied it from GitHub, learn how it works.

Phase 4: The HR Interview

This is a culture fit and sanity check. They want to know if you are flight-risk and if you can behave in an office.

  • Have a crisp, 60-second answer for "Tell me about yourself."
  • Research the company beforehand. Know their CEO, their recent news, and what they actually do.
  • Have a sensible answer for "Why should we hire you?" and "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" (Hint: Do not say "Opening my own startup" to a corporate recruiter).

Your Resume is Your Syllabus

The interviewer will ask questions based on what you wrote on your resume. If you wrote "Machine Learning" because it sounded cool but you don't know what linear regression is, you are finished. Only list what you can defend.

Nail Your First Impression

Your resume is the first thing the campus recruiter sees. Make it flawless.
